About Us

Our Story

The beginning of a safe and natural journey toward healthy skin.

ByNature Handmade Soaps came about from my interest in aromatherapy and anything natural.  It amazed me to know that things from nature have the ability to affect our whole being, inside and out.  So, with soaps being one of my favorite commodities (I loved trying different brands that time, especially the imported ones), I decided to research about them.  Having done so made me realize a number of things.

1)   I realized that the ingredients in commercial soaps are mostly harmful to our skin and our health.  It was good-bye to my favorite, freshly scented soaps I have been using since I was young. (No regrets!)

2)  I realized that animal fat was used in manufacturing commercial soaps that’s why they were so cheap!  The price was not my concern, though.  It was the fact that animal-derived ingredients were in the soaps I used before. Never again! Here are other common cosmetic ingredients that come from animals.

3)  I realized that I can actually make my own soaps and know what they’re REALLY made of.  Plus, the more I researched, the more I learned of the benefits of handmade soaps and how much healthier they are than the commercial ones.

This was when my adventure began with handmade soaps.

It was not easy at the beginning.  I ended up with quite a lot of batches that did not pass my standards.  Some were too dry and crusty, others were too soft, some produced little bubbles, and others lathered but did not bubble at all.

After a number of trials and errors, I finally made a batch with just the right combination.  That batch bubbled with a very nice lather!  I felt so clean and refreshed after trying a bar, like all the dirt and dead skin came off!  My skin did not feel tight and dry at all.  In fact, it felt very soft! (See why no regrets?)

Since then, I have come up with dozens of variants and, rest assured, only healthy, aromatic, and beneficial ingredients go into them.  You can be certain that you are giving your skin only the BEST with ByNature Handmade Soaps!

Why go for

ByNature Handmade Soaps?

Because they are ALL-NATURAL. ByNature Handmade Soaps contain NO chemical preservatives, hardeners or additives.

They are made with food-grade vegetable oils such as coconut oil, palm oil, and olive oil and are lovingly made using the cold-process method.   With this soapmaking method, all the bars are made completely from scratch.  No short-cuts or pre-manufactured bases and you get all the goodness of naturally-formed glycerin!

The health of your skin depends highly on its moisture content.  While commercial soaps are harsh and drying, ByNature Handmade Soaps are just the opposite — they cover your skin with a very thin coat of glycerin and vegetable oil.  The glycerin draws moisture from the air while the vegetable oil keeps the moisture in.

With regular use, ByNature Handmade Soaps will leave you with feeling soft, moisturized, and healthy.

What’s with Ol’factory bars?

My interest for all things safe and healthy has grown with my family and, being a mother of three, going all natural is one of the best ways to ensure their good health.

When it comes to what I do, I continue to practice what I believe in.  For almost two decades now, I have produced thousands of handmade soaps, all of which are safe and natural – all moisturizing and lathery, some scrubby, and others, oh-so fragrant!  But through the years, I have learned and accepted the fact that one soap maker can never satisfy all types of consumers.

I wanted to face that challenge.

Diverting a little from my ideal 100% all-natural bars, I came up with Ol’factory, an “old factory” that is all about making scents.

Ol’factory will address one’s search for fun, enticing, and aromatic bars, to be enjoyed and relished during showers while leaving the skin smooth and healthy.

This line will focus on providing soap lovers a wide array of scents to choose from without sacrificing quality and the importance of being all-natural.  With this said, I maintain a natural level of 96% – no lower than that.

The fragrances selected are meant to bring nostalgia of childhood days (like Vanilla and Strawberry) or make one remember special days (like Green Tea and Olive).  So, treat and pamper yourself during every shower and enjoy mixing and matching the wonderful variants Ol’factory can offer.

Fun times are not meant to be kept as memories.  They should also be enjoyed in a lifetime of exciting, relaxing, and pleasant showers!

Info, Use & Care

INFO

Handmade Soaps

1.  If you noticed, especially during the rainy season, exposed bars “sweat” or get moist on their own.  That’s because they naturally absorb water or moisture from the air.  What makes this occur is the naturally-formed glycerin, a humectant, which is retained in every bar.

Humectants keep our skin moisturized.  So, whenever you use ByNature Handmade Soaps, you are assured of getting glycerin on your skin, leaving it moisturized all the time.  Other natural humectants are honey and castor oil which some of my bars have, too.

So the next time you see the handmade soaps “sweating”, especially during humid weather, you know that the humectants in the bars are doing their job.

2.  The longer the handmade soaps are air dried, the longer they last in the shower.  But they also tend to shrink and become lighter because the water continues to evaporate from the bar.

3.  Given that they are handled by hand from start to finish, imperfections with their shape and variation on their appearance per batch are normal.  Some bars may have unequal cuts, small holes, dark spots (from clumped up or not-thoroughly-mixed ingredients like herbs and spices), little dents or rounded edges, but they are still the same high-quality handmade soaps.  These little imperfections also make every single bar unique.

The bars’ tops are intentionally made to look uneven or wavy.  While some batches do get the right “look”, others still do end up flat. These differences also should not matter for they are only for aesthetic purposes.  Wavy or flat, the quality of the handmade soaps are not compromised.  Again, these little imperfections are what make these bars unique and they are not to be compared with perfect-looking bars we all got used to seeing.

4.  As I always tell those who inquire about the shelf life of my handmade soaps, “They will always be good handmade soaps (much better than commercial and herbal soaps in the market).”  Now, what may change in time is their scent.  Since some pure essential oils are volatile, their scent may become faint sooner.  But if the bars are kept with their wrappers (and stored properly), their scents may last longer, around 3-6 months or even more.

Anyway, if a parent still decides to use some of them on their child earlier than what are specified, it is better to consult the child’s doctor first before doing so.

CARE & USE

Handmade Soaps

1.  Keep them on a good soap dish (like ByNature Wooden Soap Dish) to prevent them from soaking in water and melting easily. The bars do not contain hardeners, which commercial soaps have to make them last longer.

2.  Store them in a cool, dry place like your cabinet or dresser drawer, but make sure that moisture does not develop. Try adding 1-2 silica gel packs with the bars.

3.  Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight, but warm areas, where the handmade soaps can continue to air dry, are okay.

4.  Avoid keeping them in humid places where moisture formation is prevalent (most especially variants that contain honey).

5.  Before using ByNature Handmade Soaps, cut them in two. Use the first half in the shower and let the other half continue to air dry (you can keep it in your linen drawer as a drawer freshener). The longer the bars air dry, the harder they become and will not melt as fast in the shower.

6.  To make a bar last longer while in use, lather it instead on a loofah, sponge or a small towel. I know it feels so much better to use ByNature Handmade Soaps directly on your skin, but this is just a suggestion.

100% Natural Products

1.  Keep away from direct heat and continuous exposure to air.

2.  Keep the bottles/jars closed when not in use.

3.  Always use clean fingers when getting some salve or balm. Avoid “double dipping”.

Shelf Life

Handmade Soaps

They will always be good soaps.  So in, maybe, 2, 3, 4 or even 5 years, their scent may be faint, they may smell rancid (they’re full of oils afterall), they will look much smaller (but will be much harder), BUT they will still lather and do their job, which is to clean.  Again, they will always be good soaps!

100% Natural Products

Their shelf life will vary depending on the following:

  • Exposure to heat
  • Exposure to air/oxygen
  • Exposure to light/sunlight

Since they all contain oils and/or butters and do not have synthetic preservatives, they can become rancid after a certain period of time, just like regular oils (e.g. cooking oils).  Frequent exposure to the elements above will hasten their rancidification.  It is best to store them in cool, dark places. Storing them in the refrigerator when not in use can help prolong their shelf life.

From my experience (with normal usage), these products stay good for the given durations below (even without refrigeration).
